BRIDGING the GAP
Bridging The Gap is a much-needed discussion between older adults living with sickle cell disease and sickle syndromes, and our children born into and growing up with this life-challenging disease.
Bridging the Gap, a virtual program produced by UNTOLD Story Media for the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network. The program airs three times annually on Zoom and is streamed live on Facebook.
Since medical literature state that the mortality rate for persons living with SCD is 5-years of age, and 45-years of age, we reach out to adults 50-years and older to interact with our youth and their parents.
The intent is a Show & Tell process, whereby our children not only hear about living well into elder years also seeing with their own eyes that they can. The adults share stories of their life’s journey, experiences with the disease, and share practical advice on how to live healthier.
Bridging the Gap is scheduled for the following dates in 2021:
May 22, 2021 11:00 AM — A Child’s Voice: 8 to 13-Year Olds Speak Up!
November 27, 2021 11:00 AM — Boys & Men Living with Sickle Cell Disease
Mentorship is vitally important. Our children are faced with the challenges of race, negative public perception, education disparities, social isolation, and the fear of dying young. Bridging the Gap between disability and death — to living in good health well beyond the stated morbidity of sickle cell disease.
